QR Codes and Microsoft tags on your MOO cards
Using QR codes and Microsoft tags on your Business Cards and MiniCards is the latest way to make it even easier for the people you meet to contact you.
And of course, our creative community (that’s you!) has been in on the secret for ages. Here are just a handful of our favourites:
QR codes
PHP Developer and self confessed “general geek” Ben Dodson uses no ordinary contact details, only a QR code on his Business Cards to help people he meets keep abreast of his many, many online projects and social networking profiles, including Twitter, Delicious, Facebook, and Flickr. Plus, the images show off all of his hobbies!
As part of their re-branding, Barefoot Media have made their QR code a central feature of their Business Cards design. Account Executive Sam says, “We’ve recently redeveloped the Barefoot brand with a new logo and new website and needed our business cards to represent these changes. There’s only so much information you can fit on a business card and we felt that a QR code was the perfect way for people to visit our website on the move and find out more about us and the work we do.” It’s also proven to be a real talking point!
Project manager Bert Heymans uses QR codes on his Business Cards to send people to an online profile page specifically designed to look good on mobile phones. And in case you like his cute cartoon avatar and want your own, he made it at Very Important Pixels.
These cool MiniCards are the handiwork of Jonas Caruana from Training Mobs, an online social fitness community that helps you find group workouts in your area. “Our MiniCards have been a huge hit” Jonas tells us. “We were at the Spartan Race just north of Montreal recently and handed out close to a thousand!”
Microsoft tags
A regular on the stand up circuit, comedian Inel Tomlinson knows a thing or two about self promotion via his MOO MiniCards. When he set up his own night, Kinetic Comedy, he decided to keep audiences coming back with Microsoft tag competitions that link directly to his website. Why not have a go?
Our Marketing &Product VP Lisa met the charming Kevin Gawthrope, a Social Media and Web Marketing director, at South by Southwest last year – and naturally, they swapped cards! Kevin’s cards are great – they remind you where you met him with text, what he looks like with a personal avatar within the Microsoft tag and the tag then also directs you straight to his website – or as he calls it, his “one stop shop for all my pet projects!”

As well as on my minicards I had a book of Moo stickers made with a QR code linking to my website.
That way I can stick them on anything even my own camera equipment in case anything gets mislaid then hopefully an honest person will get back to me via my site
This has given me the idea of getting a QR code printed on Moo stickers to send people to a special offer page and then sticking them to my prints when I hand them out. Would the stickers be too small to scan??
As a big fan of QR codes I am forever surprised how often they are linked to a company webpage rather than to a video, which a far easier to view on a mobile device and a more compelling format to communicate your message. Worse, I scanned a QR code in the NY Times magazine last weekend that did not work on my new Android phone, no matter how many times I tried.
I used a QR code on my mini cards, linking to my design portfolio website. I like to think handing these out to potential clients gives me a bit of an edge in the highly competitive mobile design field… they definitely look cool and unique! Thanks Moo :)

Love that you added QR, now if you could just make them the correct standard business card size I’d never use anyone else.
I am VERY interested in getting my QR code on my cards, but who makes the codes? Do you? What is the process for someone trying to do this for the first time?

Lisa, if you search QR codes on google it will come up with lots of places that will generate a QR code for you – for free :)) – you can then use that .png in your artwork

I have QR codes on my cards leading directly to my Etsy shop. I think these are a fabulous marketing tool, and I’m so thrilled that they work so well on Moo cards!
I use QR Codes with our Photography School, We use them for a number of things for students details course work and much more.

My QR code links directly to my website (which is optimized for mobile devices), but next time I will make it link to a specific url such as /card so I can point it to any content I like and set up google analytics tracking.

When visiting SXSW last year I created custom Moo MiniCards with a QR Code linked to http://www.JonReese.com/SXSW2010, a mobile-ready SXSW landing page.
My QR code on my bus card is a vCard, not as cool as pointing to a video or such like, but it does mean the person you’re giving the card to can scan and save all your details to their contacts quickly and easily.
